Katie Robinson, a former scientist and patent attorney with a PhD in Chemistry, transitioned into art, bringing a unique scientific perspective to her contemporary, bold, and colorful paintings. He work is inspired by contrasts in color, light, temperature, and viewpoint.s work provides joy and levity through colour and texture.
In her artistic journey, Katie has found inspiration in the landscape of Central Otago, New Zealand, which boasts a unique geological history. The dry climate of Central Otago showcases the clearest colors, the brightest light, and the darkest shadows.
Katie's paintings frequently involve a reimagination of this distinctive region. She is drawn to the interplay of opposites—light and dark, inside and out, and complementary colors. She hopes that her unconventional color choices reflect the dramatic contrasts offered by Central Otago. For Katie, shades and hues of blue take center stage in Central Otago and often take center stage in her works, whether it’s the deep azure of the sky, the electric blues of waterscapes, or the out-of-place use of blue in an interior. This color frequently serves as the emotional anchor of her work.
In some of her paintings, Katie likes to offer an interior perspective, creating a cozy nook within the vast landscapes of Central Otago. This intimate view often includes an animal or two, inviting viewers into her world. These creatures are part of her artistic narrative, as much as they are a part of the narrative of her own life.
Katie loves to create works that interest and resonate with people, particularly enjoying commissions that feature special places, scenes, and animals for her clients. When her version of a scene or subject resonates with someone else, she feels truly fulfilled.
